The Technician is responsible for performing quality mechanical work. Perform Pump rebuilds using precision tools, and manufactures procedures.
STARCON is a merit shop contractor supporting a team working environment. As such, all team members will be required from time to time to perform other duties that they are qualified to perform, outside of this job description and their normal work function.
The normal work environment will be in a facility where exposure to outdoor weather conditions is possible and where proper PPE is required for a variety of potential hazards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
•The roles and responsibilities of a technician may include but are not limited to the following items.
•Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
•Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
•Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision operations.
•Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
•Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
•Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of work.
•Position and fasten work pieces.
•Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
•Ensure proper permits have been obtained.
•Provide Leadership and knowledge to Team Members in lower classifications
•Isolation of equipment (blinding, LOTO, etc.)
•Responsible for the disassembly and assembly of unit equipment.
•Not only works well as part of a team, but promotes team values for others.
•Maintains a clean and orderly work environment and maintains housekeeping of job site.
•Returns all tools and materials used by the crew to the proper place at the end of shift.
•Must be willing to contribute to the development of other team members, including on the job training for A-Mechanic Apprentices, B-Mechanics, B-Mechanic Apprentices and Laborers.
•Must fully participate in the safety assessment of the job and completion of JSA’s.
•Fully participate in health, safety, quality and environmental processes.
•Is an ambassador for STARCON to the client, other contractors and the public.
oMinimum of 4 years of Experience in the Manufacturing Industry or related field rebuilding industrial pumps.
oAbility to diagnose, disassemble, and rebuild several different styles of pumps and/or related types of equipment.

oMust be willing to attend continued training applicable to job as deemed necessary by STARCON.
oMust pass a craft-specific test (either written, performance or both, if required).

oMay be required to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by STARCON.
oMust be able to climb ladders and stairways.
oMust be able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials.
oMust be able to work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces. (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
oMust be able to work extended hour on your feet on uneven surfaces. (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
oMust be able to pass applicable site-specific training.
oKnowledge of manufacturing plant hazards which may require special precautions and PPE.
oMust undertake the appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location.
oCPR and 1st Aid Trained, when required.
oMust be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels and permits in English.
