EXAMPLEThe B-Mechanic is responsible for assisting other teammember in performing various assigned tasks. Duties of a B-Mechanic willinclude but not limited to: safety, quality, working under the direction ofsenior craft people on assigned projects, cleanup of equipment and work areasas directed by the Supervisor.

The B-Mechanic will workclosely with other team members, with a goal of obtaining sufficient knowledgeand experience en route to becoming an A-Mechanic Apprentice. He or she will assist other team members inall assigned tasks. This Team Membershall work as a B-Mechanic until such time has occurred that the necessaryknowledge and experience by testing and certification have been met, to enablethe Team Member to advance (by testing and certification) to the position ofA-Mechanic Apprentice.

STARCON is a merit shopcontractor supporting a team working environment. As such, all team members will be requiredfrom time to time to perform other duties that they are qualified to perform,outside of this job description and their normal work function.

Job Description:

The roles and responsibilities of an B-Mechanic may include but are not limited to the following items.

•Meets the roles and responsibilities of B-Mechanic Apprentice

•Insure proper permits have been obtained

•Complete assigned tasks with safety and quality in a timely manner

•Housekeeping of job site

•Working within all STARCON and client policies, procedures, standards and specifications

•Clean up of tools and equipment

•Must be willing to provide guidance and on the job training experience to other team members

•Completion of JSA’s

•Fully participate in health, safety, quality and environmental processes.

•Is an ambassador for STARCON to the client, other contractors and the public.

Qualification Guidelines:


oMinimum of one year experience in industrial facilities and has fulfilled their obligation as a B-Mechanic Apprentice


oSkill requirements of a B-Mechanic Apprentice

oRead and understand pipe and steel drawings

oAssist pipefitters/welders (grind and prep pipe for fit-up)

oIdentify, install and repack valves

oSocket weld pipe fabrication

oSafe and proper use of rigging equipment

oUnderstanding of tray tower internals assembly and disassembly processes

oUnderstanding of heat exchanger assembly and disassembly processes

oAble to perform a hydrostatic test on heat exchanges, vessels, towers and piping systems

oIndividual heat exchange tube testing

oUse of a pipe-beveling machine to cut pipe to accurate lengths

oAble to assist a Component person in scaffold building

oAble to properly use rigging equipment

oAble to assemble structural steel

oSTARCON qualified DOT driver, if required

oSound knowledge of rigging skills.

oComplete appropriate STARCON skills assessment test(s).
