The Pipefitter II is normally responsible for the fit up and construction of piping systems. Duties of a Pipefitter will include but not limited to: safety, quality, notifying supervisor of material and equipment needs, and working with STARCON’s QA/QC department in assuring all quality requirements are being met.
STARCON is a merit shop contractor supporting a team working environment. As such, all team members will be required from time to time to perform other duties that they are qualified to perform, outside of this job description and their normal work function.
The normal work environment will be in an industrial facility where exposure to outdoor weather conditions is possible and where proper PPE is required for a variety of potential hazards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The roles and responsibilities of a Pipefitter II may include but are not limited to the following items.
•Safe use of Pipe Hand & Power Tools.
•Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
•Threads pipe using threading machine.
•Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper and stainless steel.
•Installs pipe hangers
•Performs hydro-tests and air tests of piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
•Housekeeping of job site.
•Prioritizing tasks according to job schedule.
•Getting all tools and materials used by his or her crew to the proper place at the end of shift.
•Assist in assuring all required STARCON and client QA/QC forms are properly filled out with all necessary signatures.
•Keeping track of all components and materials for his or her job.
•Working Safely at all times.
•Must be willing to provide guidance and on the job training experience to other crafts from Pipefitter Helper to Laborers.
•Completion of JSA and SLA forms.
•Fully participate in health, safety, quality and environmental processes.
•Is an ambassador for STARCON to the client, other contractors and the public.
Experience in the Petrochemical Industry or related field, with four or more years of experience in the piping field
•Skills (as applicable to assignment):
Torch cutting, operation of equipment such as pipe cutting / beveling machines
Knowledge of control valves, check valves, and relief valves related to removal, handling, and proper installation
Able to install and remove blinds for isolating fixed equipment and performing hydro tests
Sound knowledge of rigging skills and hand signals
Knowledge of materials which require the proper pre-heating prior to cutting or welding
Able to read and understand piping isometric drawings
Able to read and understand weld procedures
Able to perform steam tracing on associated piping systems
Complete appropriate STARCON skills assessment test(s)
Must be willing to attend continued training applicable to job as deemed necessary by STARCON
Must be able to pass the NCCER Assessment Test for Pipefitter Skill Set
Must have valid driver’s license or other government issued identification
May require a TWIC card
Must comply with STARCON’s drug and alcohol policy
Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary and as required by STARCON
Must be able to climb ladders and stairways
Must be able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials
Must be able to work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required
Must be able to pass applicable site-specific training
Knowledge of refinery and chemical plant hazards which may require special precautions and PPE, such as Sulfuric, H2S and HF
Must undertake the appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location
CPR and 1st Aid trained, when required
Must be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels and permits in English.
